Where Septic Waste Is Managed Safely

Septic tanks and other on-site sanitation systems require proper emptying and responsible disposal of accumulated wastewater and sludge.

BWASCO's official records recognize exhauster services for customers who use the company's sewer system to dispose of waste from septic tanks.

Properly managed discharge helps prevent uncontrolled release of untreated wastewater into the environment and supports safer sanitation within the community.

Designated Discharge

Septic waste should only be discharged through authorized and designated wastewater disposal arrangements. Customers and exhausters should not dispose of septic waste into open drains, waterways, roads or other unauthorized locations.

Why Discharge Points Matter

Safe Disposal Protects Everyone

Proper wastewater discharge is an important part of responsible sanitation and environmental protection.

Protect Public Health

Proper handling and disposal reduces the risk of human exposure to untreated wastewater and harmful contaminants.

Protect Water Resources

Controlled discharge helps reduce the risk of wastewater entering rivers, streams, drainage systems and other water resources.

Protect the Environment

Responsible wastewater disposal supports cleaner surroundings and sustainable sanitation practices.

Wastewater Journey

From Septic Tank to Safe Disposal

A responsible discharge process begins at the customer's premises and ends at an authorized disposal point.

01

Septic Tank

Wastewater and sludge accumulate within the septic tank and require periodic emptying.

02

Exhauster

An appropriate exhauster service removes the accumulated septic waste.

03

Transportation

Waste is transported in a suitable tanker to an authorized wastewater discharge arrangement.

04

Safe Discharge

Waste is discharged through the appropriate authorized wastewater system or disposal point.

Authorized Disposal

Use Approved Discharge Arrangements

Septic waste must be managed through appropriate wastewater disposal arrangements.

BWASCO's tariff specifically recognizes private exhausters that discharge into the company's sewer system and provides a tariff for this service.

Use authorized discharge points Ensure septic waste is taken only to an approved wastewater disposal facility or system.
Use suitable exhauster services Ensure the waste is collected and transported using appropriate equipment.
Follow applicable requirements Exhausters should comply with applicable wastewater, environmental and service requirements.
Keep the environment clean Avoid unauthorized dumping or discharge of untreated septic waste.
Private Exhausters

Private Exhauster Discharge

BWASCO's approved tariff provides for private exhausters that discharge septic waste into the company's sewer system.

The published tariff specifies a charge of KSh 15,000 per truck per month for private exhausters dumping into the company's sewer system.

Important: Private exhausters should confirm the applicable authorization, discharge arrangements, operating requirements and current charges with BWASCO before using a company discharge facility.
Environmental Responsibility

No Unauthorized Dumping

Every customer and exhauster has a role to play in protecting Bungoma's environment.

Do Not Dump in Drains

Septic waste should never be discharged into storm drains, open drainage channels or roads.

Protect Waterways

Avoid any disposal that could contaminate rivers, streams, wells or other water resources.

Dispose Responsibly

Use authorized wastewater disposal arrangements for septic tank waste and sludge.
